Do you want to work on a mission where your work matters – both today and for future generations?
As a cemetery engineer, you will help develop and manage the green cultural heritage. In a unique and significant environment, you combine technical expertise with responsibility for planning, implementation, and development of dignified places that carry memories, history, and future.
Your closest colleague Jennie shares:
”The best part of my job is the variety – working with fantastic environments, complex issues, and feeling that you are making a difference. We will have close collaboration in our daily work, and I look forward to welcoming a new colleague to brainstorm ideas with, who shares an interest in our cemetery environments. The work mainly takes place in the office but also out in our 23 cemeteries and burial sites. In 2027, we will move into new premises at Hovdestalund – we are looking forward to that!”
ABOUT THE POSITION
As a cemetery engineer, you have a central role in the planning, development, and management of the cemetery's land and plant environments. The assignment is both strategic and operational and ranges from early planning stages to implementation, follow-up, and long-term management.
You will work with project planning and cost estimation of land facilities, including plantings, as well as measuring heights and areas. The role includes developing, updating, and managing various types of planning documents such as care and maintenance plans, management plans, accessibility plans, and tree care plans. Plant planning and plant orders, updating and administration of burial maps, as well as purchasing materials such as stone and landscaping equipment are also part of the tasks.
You will participate in operational planning, conduct procurements within your assignments, and have project management responsibility for assigned projects. The role also involves providing support and expertise within the organization on issues related to land and plants.
Furthermore, the work includes handling permit matters and contact with authorities, as well as collaboration with external consultants. Depending on your background, the role may also include more strategic elements, such as responding to referrals and providing expert support on overarching issues.
The assignment also includes ensuring that you have the necessary knowledge and understanding of the legislation governing the operations, such as the Burial Act, Cultural Heritage Act, and accessibility regulations. The work also involves collaboration on occupational health and safety issues related to land and construction work, where you may act as the coordinator for safety.
The position is one of two engineering positions within the cemetery operations, and you will work in close collaboration. Tasks and responsibilities are distributed between the positions based on the needs of the organization and respective competencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
To apply for the position, we want you to have a post-secondary education as a horticultural engineer, landscape engineer, or equivalent. You also need to have the ability to work with digital drawing, for example in CAD or equivalent programs, as well as experience with some mapping software. A driver's license and access to a car are required.
It is an advantage if you have experience working in burial operations or other experience that the employer deems equivalent. Furthermore, it is advantageous if you have worked on developing tree care plans and if you have an interest in the green cultural heritage.
PERSONAL QUALITIES
To thrive in the role, we believe you are a person who collaborates well with others while taking responsibility for your tasks and independently driving your processes forward. You are structured in your work approach, have the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize, and meet set deadlines.
You are confident and professional in your role, with good self-awareness and the ability to adapt your approach to the situation. You distinguish between the personal and the professional and contribute to a respectful and constructive collaboration.
Furthermore, you are relationship-building and enjoy having many points of contact. You are outgoing and socially active in professional contexts and relate to others in a responsive and smooth manner. At the same time, you have a creative and solution-oriented approach and contribute ideas and new approaches that can be put into practice.
You work in line with decisions made, goals, policies, and guidelines, and contribute a positive and professional attitude towards the assignment and the organization.
